The free check: pull the top grille and look at the coil with a flashlight. If you cannot see metal fins through the dust, that is your problem, or at least your first problem.
This is the most common Porter Ranch laundry complaint, and the dryer itself is usually innocent. The free check: run the dryer on high, then go look at the outside vent flap. Weak airflow or a flap that barely lifts means the run is restricted. If the vent exits on the roof, assume it has never been cleaned unless you know otherwise.
Mineral deposits build up on the dishwasher's heating element, spray arm jets and fill valve wherever water is repeatedly heated and left to evaporate.
The symptoms arrive in this order: white film on glasses, dishes coming out gritty, longer cycles, and eventually a fill valve that sticks or a heater that fails. The film on glassware is not a machine fault at all, it is chemistry, and it responds to rinse aid and a monthly empty hot cycle with citric acid long before any part needs replacing.
The free check: unscrew the lower spray arm and hold it up to a light. If half the jets are blocked with white deposits, soak it in white vinegar for an hour.
