Trash compactor repair

The appliance almost nobody else in the Valley will still touch. Ram motors, drive chains, key switches and the smell that comes from a filter nobody knew existed.

Why these are hard to get serviced

Compactors went out of fashion, so most shops stopped carrying parts and stopped learning the mechanisms. They are still fitted in a lot of Valley kitchens from the seventies and eighties, they are built into the cabinet run, and pulling one out leaves a gap that nothing modern fills. That is exactly why keeping one alive is usually the sensible choice.

What actually fails

  • Drive motor and gearbox, the expensive end
  • Drive chain or belt slipping, so the ram travels partway and stops
  • Directional and key switches, cheap and the most common cause of a unit that does nothing
  • Ram jammed on something that should never have gone in, which is a mechanical extraction rather than a parts job
  • Odour, which is a charcoal filter and a seal, not a fault

We service and install compactors. If you have been told by three companies that nobody works on them, that is the reason this page exists.

Questions we get

Do you really still work on trash compactors?

Yes. It is listed on our Yelp profile as a service and it is not a token listing.

Mine smells even when empty

Charcoal filter and the door seal. Both are replaceable and neither is expensive.

Typical price ranges by appliance type are going on the pricing page. Until then, you get the price before we touch anything, and the local service call is free.
