Bosch repair in the West Valley: what E15, E24 and a wet plastic load actually mean

Bosch faults in West Valley kitchens cluster in four places. Water in the base pan, which reads as E15 and is the one that means stop. Drain restriction, which reads as E24 or E25 and is usually the filter or a garbage disposal knockout plug. Wet plastic at the end of the cycle, which is not a fault at all. And ice maker problems on 500 and 800 series refrigerators, which are almost always the fill line rather than the module. What E15 is telling you, and why it is different from every other code

E15 means the leak protection system has activated. Bosch brands it AquaStop on the 300 Series and above, while entry level machines use a simpler overflow protection system, so do not assume the name from the code alone. Bosch dishwashers generally have a shallow base pan under the tub with a foam float in it. When water collects there, the float rises, a microswitch closes, and the control locks out the fill valve and runs the drain pump on a loop. That is why the machine sounds like it is running but never fills.

The code is doing its job. The important part is that water reached the base pan, and it got there from somewhere: a hairline crack in the sump, a failed door seal at the lower corner, a loose hose clamp on the circulation pump, or a heat exchanger that has split. Clearing the code without finding the source puts the leak back in service under your cabinets.

What to do before anyone arrives, in this order. Close the water supply valve, which on most Valley installations is the small angle stop under the sink feeding the braided line. Switch the appliance off at the wall or the breaker. Pull the bottom rack and check whether there is standing water in the tub, because water in the tub and water in the base pan are two different repairs. Do not run the cycle again to see if it clears.

You will find advice online telling you to tip the machine back at 45 degrees to drain the pan and reset the float. It does drain the pan. It also does nothing about the leak, and on an integrated unit with a custom panel it risks the door hinge springs and the panel itself. Bosch's own error code guidance says to shut off the water and book a technician, and on this specific code we agree with them.

E24 and E25: the drain path, in the order we check it

E24 is a blocked or restricted drain. E25 points more specifically at the drain pump or an impeller that cannot turn. In practice we work the same path for both, cheapest first.

The filter assembly. Twist the cylindrical filter counter-clockwise, lift it out with the flat mesh screen underneath, and rinse both under hot water. Then look into the sump with a flashlight. Broken glass, a fruit sticker or a piece of eggshell sitting across the drain port produces exactly this code, and it takes thirty seconds to remove.

The drain hose loop. The hose must rise to a high loop under the counter before it drops to the disposal or air gap. If a plumber or a cabinet installer flattened that loop, the machine siphons and struggles. Check the hose is not kinked behind the unit and not crushed where it passes through the cabinet wall.

The garbage disposal knockout plug. New disposals ship with a solid plug inside the dishwasher inlet nipple, and it has to be driven out with a screwdriver before the drain hose is connected. When it is missed, the dishwasher has no drain path at all from day one. If your dishwasher started throwing drain codes shortly after a disposal was replaced, look here before anything else. The air gap. If there is a chrome cylinder on the counter next to the faucet, pull the cap and the cover and check the inside. They pack with sludge and then push water back into the tub.

Only after all four are clear does the drain pump itself become the likely part. That order matters because a pump replacement on a clogged air gap fixes nothing and you have paid for a part you did not need. The rest of the sequence is on the dishwasher repair page.

The wet plastic complaint is not a fault

Most Bosch dishwashers dry by condensation. There is no exposed heating element in the tub floor drying the load with radiant heat. Instead the final rinse heats the dishes, and the moisture then condenses onto the cooler stainless steel tub wall and runs down into the sump. Stainless steel and ceramic hold enough heat for that to work. Polypropylene food containers do not, so they stay wet.

Two things change the outcome and both are free. Keep the rinse aid reservoir full, and move the setting one step up from factory, because rinse aid lowers surface tension so water sheets off instead of beading. Then crack the door open at the end of the cycle rather than leaving it sealed shut for hours.

Models with the zeolite drying system, marketed as CrystalDry, do use a mineral that releases heat when it absorbs moisture, and they handle plastic considerably better. If your machine does not have it, no repair will make it behave like one that does. That is a purchase decision, not a service call, and we would rather tell you that on the phone.

Bosch refrigerators: the ice maker is usually the fill line

On 500 and 800 series units the complaint is no ice or hollow, undersized cubes, and the first suspect is not the ice maker module. It is the fill tube freezing at the point where it enters the compartment, which happens when the water inlet valve seeps slightly and the drip freezes into a plug.

The check you can do: pull the ice bin and look at the tube where it comes through the back wall. A visible ice plug at that point tells you what to say when you call, and it changes what we bring in the van. Do not chip at it with anything metal, because the tube is soft and the liner behind it is thin.

The other common one is water pressure. Bosch inlet valves want roughly 30 psi at the valve, and a saddle valve on a copper line, the small clamp-on type installed decades ago, often will not deliver it once the seat corrodes. Send us the E-Nr, not the model name

Bosch parts are ordered against the E-Nr, the enumeration number on the rating plate, and not against the marketing name on the front. On a dishwasher the plate is on the inner edge of the door, visible only when the door is open, usually on the right side. On refrigerators it is inside the fresh food compartment on the upper side wall. On washers and dryers it is behind the door or on the rear panel.

Bosch, Thermador and Gaggenau all sit under BSH and share a parts channel, which is useful to know for one reason: lead time. Common Bosch dishwasher parts are stocked and same-week. Control boards for specific series are not, and guessing wrong on a board turns a one-visit repair into a two-week wait.
