If those three check out and the unit is still warm, the fault is usually one of the failures below.
A torn or hardened gasket lets warm, humid air in. Symptoms: condensation on the door frame, frost buildup, longer run times. Close the door on a sheet of paper. If it slides out freely, the gasket is done. This is one of the cheapest repairs on the list.
Sits next to the compressor and pushes air across the coils. When it fails, the compressor overheats and cycles off. Symptom: fridge warm, compressor area hot, clicking every few minutes.
Lives in the freezer and circulates cold air. Classic symptom: freezer cold, fridge warm, and either silence where a fan should be or a loud squeal from the freezer wall.
Every frost-free unit melts frost off the evaporator several times a day. When the defrost heater or defrost thermostat fails, ice slowly buries the evaporator and airflow dies over one to two weeks. Symptom: unit gets gradually warmer, and a sheet of ice on the back wall of the freezer.
Feeds the control board. A drifting thermistor makes the unit run too long or not enough. On many LG and Samsung models this shows up as erratic temperatures rather than a total failure.
The compressor tries to start, clicks, and gives up. A failed relay mimics a dead compressor at a fraction of the cost, which is why we test the relay before ever condemning a compressor.
The expensive one, and the one where honesty matters. If the compressor runs but the coils never get cold, the refrigerant circuit may have a leak or a restriction. Sealed system work requires recovery equipment and EPA Section 608 certification, and on an older mass-market unit the repair cost can approach replacement. We tell you that math before any work starts. On a built-in Sub-Zero or Thermador the calculation is different, because the unit itself is worth saving.
A rough rule we give customers: if the unit is a standard freestanding model past 12 to 15 years and needs sealed system work, replacement usually wins. If it is a built-in, a panel-ready integrated unit, or under 10 years old with a fan, gasket, relay or defrost fault, repair wins clearly. If you do replace, do not send the old unit to a landfill: refrigerant must be recovered, and the EPA's Responsible Appliance Disposal program explains how proper disposal works.
